I first learned about Sir Ken Robinson and his research on creativity and the decline of creativity in education when I saw a video of a presentation he delivered at the TED conference (Do Schools Kill Creativity?). His book Out of Our Minds: Learning to be Creative is an in depth analysis of education systems and the role of creativity as part of our ourselves and our education.

Wowie Mark! I worked on a paper last winter which had to do with the origins of the Canadian Educational system and more particularly on the residential school system… And that Robinson is right, our schools are still very much borrowing from a teaching style that began in the 19th century. The idea of a time schedule for example…where every little child goes by the clock… instead of learning at their own pace and in a freer style…Very interesting. I was looking at your list of people you interviewed. How very *you*…so cool. I felt like listening to you tonight.
