A group of Canadian Musicians have formed the Canadian Music Creators Coalition in order to bring a new voice to the digital music revolution debate. Steven Page of Barenaked Ladies is one of the founding members of the CMCC and I had the privilege of speaking with him last evening.

Thanks for New Wave music, Leroy!

I couldn’t understand why there was sudden interest in my Podcast interview with Ian “Leroy” Copeland, a show I published on June 2, 2005. I was shocked when I learned that Ian passed away on Tuesday, May 23, of cancer (see Sad News by Ian’s brother Miles, and Ian Copeland dead Tuesday at a young 57 years).

Most of the music I listened to while growing up was made accessible by the Copeland Brothers. Thank you, Ian. My music collection exists because of your role in the industry.

Conferences, Posts

Wednesday, May 10, 2006 - 11:00 am

I am very happy to announce that I will be participating in a panel on The Intersection of Podcasting and Radio on June 21, 2006 at the inaugural Corporate Podcasting Summit at Sofitel San Francisco Bay.

To many, Podcasting is a disruptive media that threatens terrestrial radio; others suggest it’s radio’s welcome neighbour. I will be joining Mark Ramsey, Founder and President of Mercury Radio Research, and David Ives, Chief Executive of TVEyes | Podscope, to discuss the facts.

The Corporate Podcasting Summit is an in-depth, two-day event taking place June 20-21, 2006 in San Francisco. The conference will present Podcasting basics to companies that are considering launching their own Podcasts, and has invited speakers with experience and expertise to deliver the best content. Speakers include Michael W. Geoghegan, host of the official Disneyland Resort Podcasts; PodCast411 host, Rob Walch; Whirlpool’s Audrey Reed-Granger; John Furrier of PodTech.net; Forrester Research’s Charlene Li; speakers from Keane, BEA Systems, Feedburner and more.

As a listener of Electric Sky, you can attend the conference at the special SUPER EARLY BIRD rate, available until May 24th. To register, call Anita Yaa Agyeman toll free from the USA (800-814-3459 x318) or email anita@firstconf.com quoting Blevis to qualify for the special rates starting at US$595 for Start Ups and Podcasters, capped at US$795 for a 2 day Gold pass. You can also register online at http://www.podcast-summit.com/register.shtml (quoting BLEVIS in the Discount/Promotional box to qualify for your discount).

The summit agenda is available at http://www.podcast-summit.com/agenda.shtml

The best Bruschetta in the world

My absolute favourite restaurant is a small place, in the Glebe community of Ottawa, called Infusion Bistro. Besides having amazing food at very reasonable prices, they serve the best Bruschetta in the world.

The One has arrived

For me, terrestrial radio’s model of linear listening (as Tod Maffin describes in an article on his site) has become increasingly difficult to accomodate. Even more so since I became a voracious consumer, and producer, of Podcasts.

Enter the CBC, the only radio station in Canada worth listening to. Earlier today, it launched a suite of Podcasts that cover a full range of its most popular and influential Radio One programs, regional programming that so many are dependent on, and some programs that are only available as Podcasts.

Congratulations to the CBC for reinventing itself!!! Now, if only they would open up their archives for Podcasts.
